Activities for Kids in Bandon, OR

Bandon is a place the entire family can enjoy, and kids find particular pleasure in some of the things it has to offer. For a mellow day in town, kids have a great time prowling the streets of Old Town and shopping in the many gift stores and candy shops.

The Toy Room is a unique toy store experience that is fun for all ages. A welcome change from giant big-box toy stores, The Toy Room has a huge selection of high-quality and high-fun toys, shoes and silly gifts for all ages. Walking through the displays, one can find games, kites, educational toys, dolls, wooden trains, puzzles (complete with a miniature stage for an impromptu puppet show), puppets, sunglasses, dress-up clothes, joke gifts such as bacon-flavored toothpaste, books, and so much more.

Just south of Old Town, Bandon City Park has a playground, big grassy spots, a dog park, and a disc golf course. Families can spend all day barbequing, picnicking, riding bikes on off-street paths, playing on the playground, and letting Fido run free.

End your day with a trip through the library, adjacent to the park. For the animal lovers, the West Coast Game Park Safari with 75 species of animals including lions, bears, elk, camels and chimpanzees are on display allows visitors to get up close and personal with a variety of animals not usually accessible to humans. Visitors can roam freely throughout the park feeding and petting the tame and relatively docile animals while interacting with the more dangerous animals through cage bars and camera lenses.

For an even closer animal experience, Bandon Beach Riding Stables leads horseback riding adventures right on the beach. All ages and abilities are welcome as the folks at this small family-owned company work hard to accommodate everyone, including disabled riders. The guides on staff take time to choose appropriate horses for everyone and give basic riding instructions before beginning. Riders can choose from two different experiences. The North Beach trip takes about an hour, and the Sunset Rides, beginning at 6 p.m. take 1.5 to 2 hours.

For water lovers, family-owned Jerry’s Rogue Jets take passengers on their choice of three historic journeys up the Wild and Scenic Rogue River to the town of Agness and beyond. The jet boat tours are fun and safe for the entire family, and the experienced Coast Guard Certified pilots not only safely guide the boats, but they are knowledgeable about the wildlife, history and legends of the area and entertain passengers with their stories and wit. Tour options can choose from a 5 hour, 6 hour or 7 hour excursion.

Kids who love fishing will have a great time learning and practicing their skills in Bandon. Several lakes in the area are stocked to give anglers of all ages the opportunity to catch and keep legal-sized trout. Lunker Lake offers year-round fishing with no license required. The private six-acre lake allows only fishing activity, and fishers can keep everything they catch. Poles, tackle, and bait are available for those who need them. Other lakes in the Bandon area stocked with trout in the spring include Bradley Lake, Floras Lake, Empire Lakes, Tenmile Lake, and Garrison Lake.
