06 Jul Another Fun Bandon 4th of July
The 4th of July is one of the highlights of Bandon’s year, and Tuesday was full of many fun reasons why.
The festivities began with the annual 4th of July parade. Starting early, First Street was lined with people of all ages sporting red white and blue paraphernalia waiting for the fun to start. The parade started with a flyover by Bandon Aero Club and a seagull who was not to be outdone.
For about an hour, horses, kids, a fire engine, classic cars, floats, and more made their way through the parade route. Some highlights included a 6 month old colt who was extremely friendly, Coquille Martial Arts demonstrating their skills, and a group from the Bandon Playhouse promoting the upcoming musical “Wizard of Oz.”
The Old Town Marketplace was open all day until 8:30 with arts and crafts, produce, free face painting for the kids, food and drink, cornhole, and live music. Even the non-human animals had a great time.
As they always do, the Lions Club hosted the Old Fashioned 4th of July BBQ in the City Park. Pulled pork sliders and hot dog meals were for sale as well as drinks and root beer floats. The kids had some old fashioned fun in the bouncy house, and folks wandered among the vendors looking for the perfect souvenir.
3:00 was the time to head back to Old Town for apple pie and ice cream and to see Bandon’s newest 4th of July tradition, the cardboard boat races. This was the 3rd year for the races, and it did not disappoint with its speedy crafts and its spectacular capsizing.
After the cardboard boat races, it was time for the special 4th of July edition of Alive After 5. Hundreds of wine glasses were sold, and folks cruised around Old Town shopping at stores open late and sampling wines from several spots.
Bandon’s Sly and Friends filled the gap between Alive After 5 and the 4th of July fireworks at Brewed Awakenings with an excellent selection of pop classics. If you missed them on Tuesday, catch them at The Spoon in Langlois on Saturday, July 8 at 6:30!
The culmination of the day’s festivities began at dusk: The grand fireworks display over the Coquille River at dusk was the culmination of the day’s festivities. Many thanks to the show’s sponsors: Face Rock Creamery and the Bandon Chamber of Commerce.
And many thanks to the residents of, visitors to, and supporters of our fair town who made this year’s 4th of July celebration fantastic!
