Arts curator, painter, and Bandon resident Victoria Tierney recently traveled to Japan to visit her granddaughter and documented her trip with watercolors inspired by traditional Japanese style. During the month of October, her work is displayed at the Bandon Library art gallery in a show entitled "Sketches of Japan."
One of the most interesting series of her paintings portrays members of Tierneys granddaughters favorite musical group, a Japanese boy band called Arashi. She knew the musicians were important to her granddaughter, and in painting them strengthened the family bond.
All of Tierneys paintings capture moments, scenes, people she encountered or inspirations gained in her travels. They are heartfelt and captivating and inspire the travelers in all of us!
