Gyms, Hiking, and Cycling in Bandon

A healthy body and a healthy soul are inextricably linked, and Bandon has many opportunities to strengthen both.

Indoor Fitness Centers

Bandons three indoor fitness centers, Bandon Fitness, Masterpiece Fitness Training, and Fast & Fit offer a variety of ways to improve strength, cardiovascular ability, and/or flexibility, and they help make the exercise enjoyable. At Bandon Fitness, members find cardiovascular and strength equipment, functional training, yoga classes, and tailor-made training programs, all included in the cost of membership. Non-members can purchase daily, weekly or monthly passes. A variety of fun and challenging group exercise classes are available to members at Masterpiece Fitness Training. Zumba, boot camp, spin fit and Piyo (a combination Pilates and yoga class) are only a few of the many offerings. In addition, Andrea Bowden offers personal fitness training to help people of all ages and abilities meet their fitness goals. Fast & Fit Women's Circuit Workout is a 24 hour ladies' only circuit training center. They have 12 resistance circuit machines, 2 treadmills, an elliptical, gazelle, weights, changing room, and lockers to help you on your way to your goals.

Martial Arts classes are also available for those looking for a different way of toning the body and mind. The Hinoki Yama dojo teaches Takamura Ha Shindo Yoshin Ryu, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Walking, Jogging, and Hiking

Beach Walkers

Bandon is also perfectly suited for those looking for outdoor walks, jogs, and hikes many within its city limits. Bandon City Park, located on 11th St. just a quarter mile from beach access, includes a loop around the park on flat paved paths totaling almost 1/2 mile. If you would like to add a walk on the beach, continue west on 11th St. and walk another quarter mile to Kroenberg County Park where you'll find stairs that lead to beautiful beaches. Walking along the harbor and down the streets of Old Town is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air, and you can get your fill of people watching while you're at it. Old Town starts under the arch at the intersection of Highway 101 and Delaware Ave. SE.

The ability to walk and jog on the beach is one of the best things about Bandon. Accessed from several places along Beach Loop Drive or from Old Town, the wide beach allows for several miles of walking to the north, the south, or both. At high tide, hikers may have to climb the stairs near the Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint, but the tide does not affect the vast majority of the walking. Features include sea birds, photography, beachcombing, huge rocks, Face Rock, picnicking, starfish, sea anemones, a jetty, the Coquille River, and shallow fresh water streams. For many more walking, hiking and jogging options, see the Hiking in & Around Bandon page of thebandonguide.com.

Cycling in Bandon

Many people find pleasure in riding their bikes on the gently rolling hills of Beach Loop Drive, approximately 3 miles from end to end. Riders are treated to a variety of scenes when cycling in Bandon, including ocean views, a golf course, and many trees. A loop of approximately 11.5 miles incorporating Beach Loop Drive and Rosa Road offer ocean views as well as serene rural scenes. North Bank Lane is an easy, nicely rolling ride just north of Bandon which follows the Coquille River. From end to end, the ride is approximately 36 miles, but riders can start and finish at a number of points along the way. For those looking for a road bike challenge, Langlois Mountain Road south of Bandon takes riders up hill to views of lakes, streams, and the ocean. Mountain bikers can find fun trails at the Winchester Trail system and the Blacklock Trail systems. For more information on cycling in Bandon, visit the Exercise & Classes page of thebandonguide.com
